Things I wanna do in Las Vegas

In honor of my upcoming trip to Vegas (I'm getting super pumped for it), I'm gonna rattle off some things I wanna do / see while visiting:

1. Go to Steve & Barry's – NOT what most people would do in Vegas as a visitor … but S&B has a store there and I need to get my shop on! This EASILY ranks #1 on my list of things to do.
UPDATE: DONE! – I was able to goshopping on the Monday before AU and got myself a week's worth of clothing. I got my wife about 4 or 5 days worth of clothing and each of my kids got about 3 days worth of clothing and all for under 200$!

2. Go to the Star Trek Experience – Who DOESN'T wanna drink Klingon Blood Wine or Romulan Ale? Getting my picture taken while sitting Picard's Captain Chair??? Where do I sign up?!! You got a problem with that? Quiet, you B'Thogk!
UPDATE: NOT DONE! - Unfortunately, I was told that this exhibit closed in September and will NOT be coming back. A phone call to the host hotel confirmed that what I was told was, in fact, true. A sad day for Space Nerds indeed.

3. Go to MGM Grand and Ceasar's Palace – I just wanna see the place where all those amazing boxing fights take place. Who knows, maybe I'll see Teddy Atlas, or bump into Mike Tyson …. on second thought …
UPDATE: DONE! – I not only got to see those 2 hotels, I got to see damn near every hotel on the Strip over the course of 3 days! I saw the free shows and saw exhibits and museums that are littered throughout the hotels …. it was great.

4. Go gambling – Okay, I'm a bit conservative with my cash …. and most people who know me know that I do not gamble. But C'mon ….. it's Vegas! Maybe I'll splurge and drop 20$ on slots or something just to say I did it ….
UPDATE: DONE! – Now I am not a big gambler, but I did manage to lose 50$ total while away. I only used 30$ of my own money, the rest was winnings that were squandered away when I couldn't say no.

5. Go see some classic vegas shows – Anything from Tom Jones to Wayne Newton, David Copperfield, the Rockettes, Penn & Teller (yeah right) or any other "classic" Vegas show would be something to talk about afetrwards. Hell, even Cirque Du Soleil would be cool, though this one is a bit of a stretch …. it's like 150$ per ticket … with that kind of cash I could buy like 4 jerseys or an entire week's worth of clothes at Steve & Barry's …. but I do hear the show is amazing …..
UPDATE: NOT DONE! – Summary of reason amounts to 2 words – Too Expensive. Though it would have been great to see Blue Man Group or Wayne Brady or Rita Rudner, I was unwilling to fork out 70$+ per show. Call me cheap.

6. Walk the Strips (Old & New) - There's been countless videogames, movies and songs that talk about the Vegas Strip and I really do wanna spend some time just walking around taking in all the sights. Plus I wanna see how faithful to the city Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas was. I wanna see the OLD strip, too. With the cowboy and the old-timey hotels. See where the Godfather was filmed …. good times.
UPDATE: DONE! - It took me 3 days, but I walked the old & new strips, up and down. I only got as far as the Venetian, I never got to see the Stratosphere, Circus-Circus or any of the other northern strip hotels, but I consider my walk a success!

7. Score free schwag – if they're giving it away, chances aere, i'll take it. Why? Cuz it's free!
UPDATE: DONE! – I got enough free schwag to fill a backpack and shared it with my co-workers upon returning home.

8. Have my picture taken with Vegas showgirls – this one is more like having your picture taken with a Hooters Girl. You want it just so you can say you did it and have all your buddies be envious. But afterwards, I'll go have a hot bleach shower to get all the STD off me ….
UPDATE: NOT DONE! – The only "girls" I found were prostitutes …. and I didn't want anything from them …

9. Go to Planet Hollywood and Gameworks - I don't know WHY I wanna go there … I just wanna go see these 2 places … Gameworks cuz I am a videogame junkie and I will be away from my PS3 for a week, so this might help with my withdrawal syndrome ….
UPDATE: HALF DONE! - I went to Gameworks, didn't go to Planet Hollywood. Gameworks was cool and their restaurant had the best burgers in the new millenium.

10. Go See Area 51 – Hehehehehehe …. 81 miles north of Vegas .. when the hell would I have time to do this one? Still, it would be awesome. If I come back glowing green and speaking in Centaurese you'll know I visited ….
UPDATE: NOT DONE! – It was too far and I would have gotten shot at. But I DID go see the Atomic Testing Museum …. truly frightening stuff that they did (and are still doing) …

**** Update added on December 10, 2008 ****

Warning: Lull ahead

I am going away to Las Vegas for a business trip on Sunday. I am gone for a week. I highly doubt that I will have the time to update my blog on any sort of regular basis save for maybe an NBA update here or there.

Just a warning: It'll be slow around here next week.

So in the next few days I plan on adding a few more posts to tide anyone who reads this over for a few days – maybe even a week!

…… you know … part of me wonders why I was not able to go to Vegas LAST year when the ASG was held there ……

NBA News & Notes (November 28, 2008)

There is REALLY only ONE news bit that is worth covering here …

Stephon Marbury Suspended

He was also told to stay away from the team until they figure out what to do with him.

End is Near

Apparently, his second refusal to play might have been the straw that broke the camel's back. New York is now apparently looking at letting Steph walk.

The one thing that caught my attention was Steph's response to Quentin Richardson. Richardson was quoted yesterday as saying:

"I don't consider him my teammate. You don't do that to teammates. Regardless of whoever he's trying to stick it to, at the end of the day, we're being left out there."

Marbury's response …… "Quentin doesn't understand what's going on in the business side, but I'm sorry he feels that way."

Knowing the way that businesses treat employees and the way they can try to villainize someone to save face for their own mistakes (I have experienced it myself), makes me wonder if Steph really is such a horrible person.

He may be an egoist fat head … but I'm not sure that he's the monster he's being made out to be …

Allen Iverson misses practise, gets "hefty" fine

ESPN Article

"I've been through it before," Iverson said. "I think the toughest part of it has been our schedule. We've been on the road a lot. That was tough. For me, it's just getting a chance to settle in.

"The most important thing is getting more practice time."

And then he goes and skips practice ….. PRACTICE?!

We're not talking about the game, we're talking about practice ….

I have always enjoyed that interview and WHAT BETTER TIME to bring out than now ….

YouTube Video

Quentin Richardson has had it with Steph

ESPN Article

Decimated by injuries, Stephon Marbury was asked for a second straight game to play for the Knicks by D'Antoni. He flat out refused again.

Wilson Chandler left in the 3rd after being ejected and then they were down to 7 healthy bodies … though that could be argued because Q has an arm injury that he's trying to play through.

So Steph, in an attempt to stick it to management, leaves his teammates out to dry and Q was the first one to rip him apart for his selfishness.

"I don't pay attention to [Stephon] because I don't look at him as a teammate anyway."

Cold words, to be sure. And at this point, I think they are somewhat warranted. It's one thing to be in a battle versus management. But when your teammates are in dire straits, by George lift a hand, put your differences aside and help the team out!

I don't know man …. all this ego …..

Army Scrimmage

So last night we had our organized scrimmage vs. the 17 Wing Army team in Div. 6.

Though we only had 5 guys, I felt like it was a great exercise in patience and teamwork. The Army guys, though not the most talented players individually, had some plays they ran, ran us hard and played us tough. It gave us a different look from the normal Monday & Thursday crowd.

They even had someone videotaping it and we kept score. Out of four games, we split 2 apiece – playing to 21, counting 2s as 2s and 3s as 3s.

I definitely enjoyed the scrimmage. There was more of a sense of urgency to this one. They had good shooters and because so few people showed up for it on our side, I got a lot of run and offensive reps.

We're doing it again next Thursday at Golden Gate. Maybe we'll get more people out to that one …. ~sigh~

Shaka Dula Game 6 Recap

Game 6

Shaka Dula 65 - The Squad 76

Current Record: 4-2

We had a 12 point lead at the half. We were playing great. Then something happened. Before I could figure it out the lead was gone and we were staring at a double digit deficit. We should not have lost this game. We should have won by 25.

The only thing I can say is that this team is NOT as good as they think they are. They should not have won this game. They are not as good as their record says they are.

A couple of years ago we played against a team called "Cream Team". Though I disliked them with a passion, I have to admit that they were indeed better than we were. Last year, Liquid Swords were infinitely better than we were. But this team – The Squad – is NOT good.

We have a scrimmage tonight against 17 Wing – an army team that has been in our league for a long time. After that, we have a team meeting. There are a few things we need to discuss and iron out. I have a feeling like if we don't talk now, things will slowly unravel as the season goes on.

We'll be ready for "The Squad" next time we play them …

Obi-Wan Ginobili is back!

ESPN Article

This article dissects WHY the Spurs were "so bad" during the first few weeks of the season and WHY the Parker ankle sprain and Ginobili surgery were good for the TEAM.

I tend to agree with most of this. And, personally, I am glad to see Obi-Wan back. With Tony Parker set to return in a matter of 10 days or so, I guess we better put the League and the Lakers, especially, on notice. I doubt the Spurs will win any regular season games against them, but you better believe that they will come up with some defensive schemes to slow down the Lake Show for the inevitable playoff grudge match.

On a side note, I was able to pick him up in my fantasy pool early this week and with Tony Parker getting prepped, I am feeling much better about my chances …. now … if I could ONLY get Tim Duncan …

NBA News & Notes (Novemebr 24, 2008)

Where in the HELL was I this weekend? Three massive news chunks and I miss them all by a MILE!

Am I getting soft on the NBA, or am I just playing too much Resistance 2? ….. I blame my PS3 …

P.J. Carlesimo fired from Oklahoma City

Rumours say that he was in danger of losing his job last season and that this year, after a 1-12 start, he fell out of touch with Kevin Durant and could not gain the support of management.

I say OKC is a tool of an NBA franchise that wouldn't know good basketball if it came up and bit them in the sphincter.

Eddie Jordan fired from Washington

It was a good run for Jordan. I say he was a good coach. I mean, he got to the playoffs for 3 years with basically a shell of a team! I love me some Gils Arenas, but he's been injured and Caron Butler has missed so many games in the last few years …. Jamison has been the only reliable superstar for this team and then they have guys like Brendan Haywood, Etan Thomas, Nick Young …. how in the hell does he go about making the damn playoffs!?!!!

This is clearly a case of "fire the coach cuz we can't fire the players". And it doesn't even matter who is replacing them. I doubt either of these teams (management, players or fans) have any playoff hopes. Stick a fork in both these teams. They are done.

Speaking of done, Zach Randolph is headed to Clipperland! That's right!

Zach Randolph and Mardy Collins in exchange for Cuttino Mobley and Tim Thomas.

Let's not forget that Tim Thomas had a breakout year in D'Antoni's system a few years ago in Phoenix. I think Mike is hoping for some retro magic … still, it's great that Zach is gone. Scoring be damned. Though it's not like they were left with nothing … they get run n gun lover Cuttino Mobley … who here wants to bet that Cat has an amazing second half now that he's in a new system that is tailored for shooting guards?

The personnel carousel is not over for the Clips either. Now that they have Randolph, I would NOT be surprised to see the Bobcats make a pitch for Chris Kaman in exchange for Gerald Wallace … or, maybe …. Jason Richardson?

Continuing with the theme of being "done" …. Stephon Marbury offered playing time – refuses to play

All I can say is …. wow. I can't believe that he would resort to refusing to play ….I guess he really wants out … can't say I blame him. He would go in, give it his all … they would probably lose and the blame for the loss is pinned on Marbury. Not to mention the fact that he would probably not get any more playing time after that …. Still …. what a situation.

Bobcats pursuing Antonio McDyess

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but remember last year when Jerry Stackhouse opened his big yapper and told everyone he would be back 100% with the Mavs by the end of the month? Well, it looks like this was one of those trades as it looks like Dyess will re-sign with Detroit on the 7th of December …. shady shady shady ……

Jermaine O'Neal has a boo-boo

And so it begins … what I originally talked about back in the summer when he was acquired … though I never really blogged about it, I was actually a very vocal nay-sayer about the trade. And I still am. I'll get to that on another day.

The important thing is that there was no structural damage found and yet he is still not practising …. or playing …

I have never wanted to be proven wrong so badly in my life before …..

Chris Bosh's Secret Workout Routine

Ever wonder what the secret formula is for all those NBA Stars? Why they're SO good?

Well, apparently, for Mr. Bosh, the secret is pulling an Escalade with your teeth.

NBA Teams I Love

This list would have been different last year in the#5 spot, but this is my list NOW.

5. Orlando Magic – The fifth team is REALLY a mixed bag for me because this fifth spot is shared by 3 teams right now: Phoenix Suns, Cleveland Cavaliers and The Orlando Magic. I did NOT write down the Suns because they are different (and not for the better) with Porter at the helm and Shaq in the pivot. I USED to love them, but not so much anymore. I kind of want them to succeed, but find it hard to cheer for anyone other than Nash and Stoudemire – especially with Shaq physically bullying the young cats of the L. I did NOT write down the Cavs because my love for them is based on one player and one player alone.

I DID stick with the Magic because of history. i still have my Shaq jersey from his Orlando days. My brother has the Lil Penny I gave him for a b-day present and he has his Penny jersey as well. I LOVE D12 and I enjoy watching Turkoglu play (will anyone ever pronounce his name right?). And I actually cheer for Jameer Nelson as he reminds me of a poor man's Damon Stoudamire – but he's an underdog and I cheer for underdogs. but if Dwight howard and Hedo Turkoglu ever move from there, Orlando shall go back into the 3rd wheel of my #5 favourite team. So there you have it. Orlando at #5.

4. Houston Rockets – From Dream to Sir Charles to Drex to Yao, Steve Francis, T-Mac (bless his first round exiting soul) and Scola … I have always had a passionate relationship with Houston based on history and players. The fans are loyal and they are not the Dallas Mavericks. They get bonus points for that.

3. New York Knicks – The Hoya Destroya patrolled the paint in the early to mid 90's and was a force that kept the Jordaneers in relative alert all the time. Allan Houston, Basketball John, Oak, and EVEN Steph … I have always loved the hard nosed play of the Knicks. It's hard being a Knicks fan nowadays, though. Maybe with D'Antoni I can bring out my Allan Houston jersey and wear it with pride instead of fear of ridicule. I even love the logo. The fans …. they're picky … but they know their hoops. I'd like them more if James Dolan was impaled by a giant vibrator, but as it stands, he's not enough of a reason for me to give up liking the 'bockers.

2. Toronto Raptors – Canada's team. Nuff said …… wait … NOT enough, you say? okay, well here's more reason. They are playing great right now and they have always played the brave little runt role well. Even when getting beat by the lame ass Nets, I always cheer for them. Chris Bosh, Vince Carter (back when he was a real basketball player – Dr. Funk), Tracy McGrady, Charles Oakley, Hakeem Olajuwon, Alvin Williams, Jerome Williams, Antonio Davis, Damon Stoudamire, Doug Christie (before he went pop) …. they've had great players and have always been fun to watch …. well, not always …. but love does strange things to a human being.

1. San Antonio Spurs – A world class organization, top to bottom. I won't even mention the players – except for Vinny Del Negro and Admiral … and Elliot … okay, now I am done. Instead I'll focus on the class with which they conduct themselves and the fact that they are the winningest franchise in all of professional sports over the last decade. People LOVE to hate them, players would LOVE to BE them … I rep the Spurs (10 years and counting) HARD and any haters will have to shut their yappers when I am around. Word Up.

NBA Breaking News (Trade)

Al Harrington Traded for Jamal Crawford

The New York Knicks and Golden State Warriors completed a trade this morning that sent Harrington over to New York in exchange for Jamal Crawford.

I am kind of surprised to see Crawford get dealt. He was a great fit in D'Antoni's system in the Rotten Apple. And now they get a very one dimensional player in Harrington. People are saying that he'll fit in well with D'Antoni, but I don't think it'll be too good of a partnership. Harrington is a volume shooter and he isn't very accurate from deep – which is where most of the shots in D'Antoni's system come from.

I guess I'll wait a while before I declare this a flop of a trade for New York ….. it's only fair to give it a shot, but I am not impressed by this particular move …..

NBA Teams I Hate

I was thinking last night about my last few blog posts and realized that I actually enjoyed doing up the Love/Hate lists.

Since the last few have been about INDIVIDUAL players, I'm now gonna skip ahead to listing teams I love and hate.

Let's start with the teams I hate the most in the NBA ….

5. Charlotte Bobcats – Talk about a bunch of slackers … on paper, this team is really good – Okafor, Wallace, Richardson, Augustin …. In reality, they are one of the most inconsistent, lazy, impotent group of players I have ever seen. It's hard to have any respect for this team – even WITH Larry Brown at the helm …

4. New Jersey Nets – They play in a crap market and they have done a GREAT job at dismantling every good team they had in the last 10 years. Oh, and they have Vince "Wah-Wah" Carter …. that alone is good enough reason for me to loathe them for the next 45 years …

3. Denver Nuggets – Though I like them more now that they have Chauncey Billups, I STILL find it hard to watch a Nuggets game without an "I-smelt-a-fart" look on my face. Why? Well, for starters, it's Carmelo. But it's also Kenyon Martin's smug face, J.R. Smith's insistence that he CAN shoot when, in fact, he can't. Plus I have never been a fan of Chris "Puff-Puff-Pass" Andersen (aka – Birdman) or George Karl … that and whenever ANYONE goes to Denver, they always talk about "The Elevation" … oh my gosh … The Elevation is why they win games? So it's not that they're good? It's that ALL their opponents' oxygen supply is reduced?

2. Oklahoma City Thunder – The Thunder (aka – The Seattle Supersonics) will FOREVER be on my list so long as Clay Bennett owns them. He is the boogey man …. Plus I really dislike Kevin Durant and I am not a fan of Jeff Green. Why? Cuz they take so many shots and they already have huge egoes even though they are crap. Look at their stats. They are horrible. Volume shooters that get their points cuz they chuck 25 shots a night – and coincidentally, netting 16 points off of 25 shots is really piss poor. Plus I just hate Oklahoma. They have a gay musical named after them and there is NOTHING in that state. Plus they are the home state of THE dumbest governing official ever.

1. L.A. Lakers - Reasons: Kobe Bryant, Phil Jackson – people call him the greatest coach of all time but is he really? He's coached the two best talents in the last 20 years in MJ and Kobe – even a dog could coach them to championships …), Derek Fisher (cheated Utah), Vladimir Radmanovic (space cadet), Lamar Odom (underacheiver), and ESPECIALLY Sasha Vujacic (this pecker head should have been on my most hated players list). Mitch Kupchak is an impotent prick who can only take advantage of other impotent pricks (see: Memphis, Grizzlies and Gasol, Pau) Plus 85-90% of Laker fans are bandwagon riding douchebag idiots. And that's the biggest reason of all.

Most Loved

As a companion to yesterday's Most Hated List, I'm also gonna let you in on my Top 5 Most Loved NBA Players:

5. Chris Bosh - From his energetic play, to his shameless but hilarious "vote for me" All-Star infomercials to his monster dunks and 40&18 showings, Chris Bosh has endeared himself to me in a way that few NBA Players have. He has heart, courage, mad skills and a great sense of humour and poise to the way he handles himself. Chris Bosh is awesome.

4. Gilbert Arenas – Reading this man's story is to understand what it trly means to be underdogs. I love underdogs. And this man, while a bit crazy now that he's a max player in the L, still has his feet planted on solid ground on most nights. From Hibachi to Agent Zero, his blog shows what a cool personality he has. And I hear he's actually nice to people! He hasn't gotten much love from peeps recently because of his lack of play due to injuries, but I got love for GilsArena!

3. Dwight Howard - A Christian fellow who is actually nice to people and who has not (yet) let the fame get to his head … this is refreshing. In days where the average NBA jock jockeys for cred on the court by razzle dazzling his way to the rim, Mr. Superman does it the old fashioned way – brute strength and raw power. And the thing is, unlike Shaquille O'Neal, Dwight is not out to hurt anyone. But this is not to say that he can't finesse a dunk – watch last year's dunk contest for proof. Between that and his professed love for Soulja Boy's "Crank That" …. The point is that he's not a jerk. And that is easy to love.

2. LeBron James – The Man Child …. The LeBrons, the scoring frenzies, the leadership, the maturity ….. he probably won't be on my list forever. I doubt most superstars can stay grounded when exposed to legions of people who think they are Jesus incarnate. But for the here and now, LeBron is amazing. He dances, sings, voices his political views and is willing to put himself out there for his fans and the good of the team. LeBron James is the best player in the world. Hands down.

1. Tim Duncan – It is no secret that I consider Timmy Duncan a role model. And why not? His on court feats are amazing, his off court life is a model for current NBA players to follow. He is a professional, through and through. He is THE bar by which ALL power forwards in the game today are measured. This isn't even considering the 4 chips he's won. He has given every San Antonio fan a perpetual reason to puff out their chests and profess their love of the Spurs. I know that, at 32 years of age, his time is almost up. So I will enjoy my last few years with him and cheer and support him in every way possible. Tim Duncan is EASILY my #1 Most Loved NBA Player. Haters can suck on a goat ass.

Shaka Dula Game 5 Recap

Game 5

Shaka Dula 49Slo-Motion 47

Current Record: 4-1

This was another case of "big team plays dump & chase". We were without Phil (for the 3rd consecutive game) and Nate. So we were relatively small and they had 4 guys that were big. One wasn't just tall, he was also W-I-D-E. So while we took it to them in the first half, they made their adjustments and chipped our lead away and eventually took a 9 point lead into the fourth.

To our credit, we battled hard and fought back with everything we had. Eventually we found ourselves down by one with 15 seconds left. Things seemed hopeless to me because I assumed it would come down to FT shooting and they were shooting well.

Jimmy drove middle and dished to Byrnesy on the wing. He was open. W-I-D-E open. They didn't even bother coming to him. I guess they figured he couldn't shoot. They didn't know.

Swish. Bench goes wild.

But there's still 7 seconds left. They take the ball out, seemingly confused and attempt to inbound over McGill. He springs up (high) and snatches the ball out of mid air. Everybody (on both teams) sort of stopped. Just looking at everyone else like "oh crap now what?" So we dribbled out (keep away!) the clock and we won by 2.

It was an energy win and, personally, I was shaking from the adrenaline.

A win is a win. It doesn't have to be pretty. We just have to win. Fortunately for us, we have great players on our team who can make plays and share the ball. Overall, the game showed the kinks in our armor as a smallish team – and our frigid shooting does not make teams pop out to guard us on the perimeter right now. But the game was well reffed (~shock~), albeit COMPLETELY different from last game. Ticky Tack fouls and bodies were called like crazy and I fouled out again (2nd time this year).

Our next game is the 23rd of November against the #1 team in our division (The Squad). We should HOPEFULLY have Phil back for that one. That would be nice. We need that extra big body or two. But all the guys realize that right now we're just trying to stay afloat til our bigs come home …

Most Hated

In light of the recent Kevin Garnett episode, I began to ponder: Who do I just hate in the NBA right now? This is my top 5 …

5. Kobe Bryant – Part of it is the ego and the "I wanna be like MJ tongue wag", part of it is the Shaq-Kobe feud from a few years back. Part of it is all the shots he hits against the Spurs. Part of it is the rape case that he did not go to jail for – or the adultery his wife did not leave him for. The man has skills, no doubt, but talk about an athlete abusing his privileged lifestyle …. I really hate Kobe.

4. Kwame Brown - Never has a #1 draft pick been so limp as Kwame. Selected over guys like Tony Parker, Gilbert Arenas, Samuel Dalmbert, Pau Gasol, Shane Battier, Joe Johnson and Jason Richardson you would figure that he had to have SKILLS! No ….. he had "potential" …. And he has never reached his potential … talk about a waste of height … it's not that he's not strong physically … it's more his lack of heart, and effort … he makes me sick.

3. Kevin Garnett - People are gonna hate me for putting a future Hall of Famer on here … but seeing all the bullshit he's done this year makes me really question what the hell is going on in his head. Last year, 2 years ago, 7 years ago, I would have put KG in my "most beloved" list because of his sportsmanship and humility …. but no more. He's a bonafide douchebag.

2. Carmelo Anthony - People label 'Melo as a thug … a gangsta … that's the way he carries himself at times, for sure. But he's not. He's the kind of guy who throws a punch and runs. He's the kind of guy who has supreme talent and only the desire to coast (or be slightly above average) at everything he does. His antics SCREAM for attention but he forgets that all he's done has been done before. And by better basketball players. If he would ever shut his mouth and play, he might be decent. But the way that people put this slacker on a pedestal makes me ill. Especially when you consider all the BS he's allowed to get away with.

1. Paul Pierce – Paul Pierce was a loser for his entire career – a GOOD loser, but a loser. He plays for TEN years as the man of his team and wins nothing. So the team brings TWO All-Stars and Future Hall of Famers to help him out. They surround him with excellent talent on the bench. And they win a championship. He gets Playoff MVP. And instead of thanking his team or his HOF teamnmates, he climbs on the table and screams "I Told You So"

This off-season he was asked "Is Kobe really the best player in the world?"And Pierce's reply was "I don't think Kobe is the best player. I'm the best player. There's a line that separates having confidence and being conceited. I don't cross that line but I have a lot of confidence in myself." (For the record, I think LeBron is the best player in the world and that Pierce IS conceited)

Has he forgotten that just last year he was still a loser? he may be a good basketball player, but one player can't win it all, as he's sure to have realized at SOME point playing fruitless basketball for the Celtics for 10 years …

I have never been a fan of Paul Pierce, but his antics over the last 12 months have made him (easily) my #1 most hated NBA Player.

Lil' Penny

OMG.

I can't believe this is out there once again!

I've never hidden my love of Penny Hardaway. Or his "spokesperson" Lil' Penny.

And this NBC intro is simply awesome! Complete with John Tesh's Roundball Rock!

Bravo!

Quote of the week (November 15 – November 21, 2008)

"Change will not come if we wait for some other person or some other time. We are the ones we've been waiting for. We are the change that we seek." – Barack Obama

I never thought I would say this about American Politics, but the recent Obama win has really raised my enthusiasm to make a change as an individual. Sometimes it can be something as simple as diet. Other times, it can be about having a voice in who I choose to run my country.

One thing remains clear: Barack Obama is a great speaker. He has the potential to be the leader of men, not just a president.

January (or the next Federal Canadian Election) can't come soon enough …..

NBA News & Notes (November 17, 2008)

Chauncey Billups reacts to trade

I have to say that I was shocked, somewhat, to see Chaunce get traded away …. and reading this article kind of sheds some light into the dark alleys of an NBA player's life and the shady double standards and dealings that teams do on the side …

Best wishes to Billups in Denver ….. though I have to say that it is weird to see him in powder blue and even weirder to see Iverson in that Detroit #1 ….

Patrick Ewing wants to coach

He's done good with Superman in Orlando. And I am not sure that he is coach material just yet …. he's just so … quiet …. I love Mr. Ewing, don't get me wrong. The Hoya Destroya is king. But there are some players who you never wanna see tarnished by taking a coaching gig.

Someone agrees with me! Kevin Garnett is a douchebag!

I am just flabbergasted at the effect that Boston (or is it Paul "Mr. Best in history" Pierce?) has had on KG. The look on his face changed. His on-court antics have gotten out of hand and even more disturbingly, more unsportsmanlike …. I long for the days when KG would just take an elbow to the face in good stride ….

Mark Cuban accused of Insider Trading

What does it all mean? It means he's responsible for a white collar crime. The SAME crime that Martha Stewart was accused, tried and found guilty of. The SAME crime she went to jail (home) for.

Cuban better be forthright about this or he'll be sharing a cell with a Laker loving con named Sanchez ….

Is Kanye West the Michael Jordan of the Rap Game?

Dime Mag article

Kanye West compares himself to G.O.A.T. (Jordan) and Justin Timberlake to Grant Hill …..

Well, he is a dominant force in hip hop right now ……

But if Timberlake were to be an NBA player, I'd say he'd be more like White Chocolate (Jason Williams) back when he was a rook in Sacto.

…… Aside from that, I never heard of MJ losing bladder control at an awards show ….

Side note time! what I DID see is Michael Jordan losing a 1 on 1 game against a schmuck at his own basketball camp ……

Kevin garnett is a douchebag ….

Vs. The Raptors

Vs. The Bucks

Vs. Some Guy

Vs. The Hawks in Last Year's Playoffs

And these are just a few of the examples that I found ….

Sheesh …. what happened to the Kid? What happened to that awesome basketball player?

One championship and he transforms into a big time asshole …..

******UPDATE !!!! ******

Kevin Garnett has been suspended for one game with no pay for his punch on Andrew Bogut on Saturday.

Video Here

Bogut had his foul upgraded to a Flagrant 1 as well, but at least now with the Celtics missing Garnett, things are even steven on the table once again.

Hear that, KG? even the League Office hates douchebags!

Analysis of a current NBA Team

I was watching my Spurs play the other night. Can't remember who it was. Doesn't matter.

What DOES matter is how they look this year. Now, I am a die hard loyal Spurs fan (I also rep the Knicks, Rockets, Suns and Raptors) and the only thing I can say is that this looks to be a long season.

Tim Duncan looks phenomenal, as always, and is a double-double waiting to happen. Mr. Consistency. And Tony Parker (before his injury) was playing at an All-Star level. But the rest of the Spurs …. oy!

Roger Mason Jr. may very well be a good defender, but his shooting is pretty piss-poor. And Michael Finley …. bless his soul … he needs to retire. Kurt Thomas is great. But his offense is lacking as well. And that is the achille's heel of this team . They can stop teams from scoring pretty well, but they can't make a shot as a group without the help of the big 3 – with TWO of which are injured!

It's not that they need to get younger at all. It's that they need people who can make/create shots and distribute the ball effectively!

I've read rumours that the Spurs are interested in Eddy Curry …

The feeling is that by playing alongside Tim Duncan and Tony Parker, Curry could resurrect his career under Spurs coach Greg Popovich. One major stumbling block is that the Spurs may not have enough assets to satisfy the Warriors in a three-way move.

All I can say is that Eddy Curry is a wash. PLEASE, Mr. Buford and Popp, do NOT go after Curry. He'll be worse for you than a thousand angry Vince Carters!

He's soft, mentally and emotionally unstable, a poor shooter, a slacker, selfish and more than anything else, a poor rebounder and poor defender! Not to mention the fact that he needs to be set up to be able to score and the fact that he is always fat and out of shape!

I am not ready to write this season off yet, but I think that adding Curry to the mix would most surely be a desperation, white flag move on the part of the Spurs. I say, if you're gonna pack her in early, then shut down Timmy and go for broke. Go for the lottery and the #1 pick! And then go for a guard.

If quitting is not an option, then leave Curry to rot in New York, move Finley and Mason and bring in a shooting guard who can shoot. Let Udoka get more NBA experience and develop a reliable jumper and long range shot. And develop Oberto into more of a presence inside for Timmy's sake.

There's still time to turn the ship around, but watching the Spurs play so far this year is rather painful, at times. And in the West, you can't rest.
