Outside the Lines
Amazing article. I think sometimes we forget that the athletes we admire are human beings too that can commit errors in judgment and can make mistakes.
Most of the time, it isn't the ACTION that I am usually angered by, it's usually the reaction to being found out.
Dr. J made a mistake and he denied that he had made one. But he manned up and accepted responsibility for his actions. That is something that I admire.
Great story.
Great story.

Carlos Boozer about to screw over Jazz
In a move reminiscent of what he did to the Cavs a few short years ago, Boozer is getting ready to do the same to the Jazz ….. and if they lose Millsap AND Boozer …. then the Jazz are back to rebuilding ….
Elton Brand dislocates shoulder – Sixers screwed
I saw the video (the clip is on the link) of Brand falling and I had to cringe at it. It was a nasty fall. The Sixers are now officially screwed. New Coach, no star player … no hope.
Celtics push win streak to 16 – Garnett still a douchebag
The Celtics are now my #2 most hated team after the LA Lakers. I don't care that they are close to hitting the consecutive win streak that the Rockets had a few years ago ….
——-
And I'm sure if I looked hard enough I'd find more news …… but I am feeling extra lazy today ….

Reggie Theus fired
Sacramento fired its head coach on Monday. And the League is now starting to piss me off ….
Gilbert Arenas gets a TJ Ford autographed jersey
well …. I can respect a man who wants to collect things …
D'Antoni received warmly by fans, coldly by organization
In a classless move by Robert Sarver, D'Antoni wasn't even acknowledged for his contributions to the franchise, even though fans gave him a rousing standing ovation before the game.
Suns.com employees were told they couldn't shoot video of D'Antoni during the morning shootaround. And other than the mandatory introduction with the Knicks' starting lineup, the Suns didn't do anything special to welcome D'Antoni back.
Real classy.
Fortunately, Nash and the fans come to the rescue and gave D'Antoni the warm reception he deserved for all the years of exciting basketball in AZ.

Toronto Raptors win vs. Nets … keep Vince Carter to 3 points on 0/13 shooting
That is glorious. That pompous jerk (Carter) deserves to lose for the rest of his life for complementing his vast physical potential with a horrible attitude and laiser faire work ethic.
People with less talent play their hearts out and this jerk squanders his away because of hang nails and lack of touches.
Bobcats sign Juwan Howard
Well there you go. Fab 5 Howard comes back to the L for another go around …. Larry Brown must be in dire need of real veteran leadership if they have to go so far back to find a quality vet.
Mo Cheeks fired from Philly Head Coaching gig
ANOTHER coach bites the dust …. what the hell is going on in the L and why are GMs and owners so scared to make the PLAYERS be accountable for their crappy play?

I was watching the Raptors game this evening and one of the announcers tried to make a Swirsky~ish comment. Can't remember what it was, but it made me cringe pretty hardcore.
I immediately started to realize how MUCH I miss Chuck Swirsky and his colour commentary for the Raps.
I miss the ol' Salami & Cheese …. as well as the Sick, Wicked & Nasty …..

Is there ever a point where the phrase "Please forgive me" or "I'm sorry" just don't do it?
Or rather, can things ever go back to being "normal" after a friendship shattering event occurs?
I find myself searching for answers on the heels of something that happened this week …..
Sometimes life is more like a field of mines than it is a road …

True Hoop Article
Here are some excerpts from that Amazing Article that gets down to the core of KG and his incessant jackassery …….
One typical story is of a rookie from another team, a few seasons ago, attempting to make small talk with Garnett in a meaningless game at the end of the year. The player had grown up admiring Garnett, but the veteran told him in no uncertain terms that he did not want to hear from any such rookie.
I always found it, let's say, quirky that Garnett would have these dust-ups with some of the most unlikely combatants. Guys like Andrew Bogut (no offense but not yet all-NBA), Mark Pope, Joel Przybilla, Rick Rickert (in a summer pickup game), Wally Szczerbiak, Francisco Elson, Tyrone Nesby, Anthony Peeler. The list doesn't exactly read like an All-Star roster, which then makes people wonder if he is more likely to bully a fringe guy than he is to take on one of his giants-of-the-game peers. Some growling or staredowns with fellas such as Tim Duncan and Amare Stoudemire through the years, but nothing approaching flailing, skirmishes or donnybrooks. No doubt it stems from some sort of passion, but it also seems to pack an element of umbrage taken when some mere mortal gets on his cloud. It would be nice if he would cool it.
I think the normal reaction to a situation like this [emotional player on another team drawing the ire of everyone outside of that particular team] is to say "well, you'd like it if he was on your team" … call it the "Manu Ginobili Response." And in some ways it's true: many teams wish they had an aggressive, vocal leader to rile up the troops and get under the opposing players' skins.
That being said, Kevin Garnett this year goes above and beyond that threshold. Crawling on all fours, clapping and pointing in a player's face as he dribbles up the court … these antics are classless and have no place in our game. If Dikembe Mutombo can get T'd up for a finger wag (or a player who dunks on Mutombo can be T'd for wagging a finger back), where do you classify what Garnett did to Calderon?
The fact that the Celtics won the title last year (and continue to be the cream of the league this year) should not change the fact that what has been going on is unacceptable. As a league, we have certain guidelines and parameters for professionalism and sportsmanship, and these guidelines are not dictated by a team's record.
I'm not saying get rid of all trash talking; basketball is a competitive sport, and letting those competitve juices fly on the court is a good thing. Passion for the game is a good thing. Being a complete jackass is not.
Through it all, I remain unconvinced that Garnett needs to verbally abuse people to play basketball well, just as I remain convinced that there is tremendous value, in all walks of life, in treating others with dignity.
Yes, he's rude. KG-5 is not PG-13. (I dare the NBA to mic that guy all night long.) The way he uses his voice is the kind of behavior that would get you kicked out of many pre-schools or fired from many workplaces. In almost any social setting, this would be considered somewhere between petulance and bullying.
I think KGs behaviour this year is not only rude and disrespectful, it is also egotistical and is instilling an extremely poor attitude in today's youth. You don't need to be a bully in order to play well and KGs fans may misinterpret his rantings as necessary. I don't care what the reason is, the bottom line is that he didn't appreciate being treated that way when he came in and now, no matter WHAT, he should not be treating people like that.
what an asshole.

So much has happened in the last week or 2 ….. let's try to catch up, shall we?
Cuttino Mobley forced to retire
It's always unfortunate when a player leaves for reasons beyond his control. But Cat's heart condition is no laughing matter and could very well cost him his life. Though his career never panned out like I am sure he wanted it to, I have to say that it was fun watching him play. Thanks for all the memories, Mr. Mobley.
Dwight Howard leads NBA All-Star balloting
This is a surprise for me because I was sure it would be the usual suspects … LeBron, DWade, Kobe, Shaq, Yao or KG
Ilgauskas twists ankle – to miss a few games
This on the heels that there's speculation that this could be the Ill Ga Ga's last season as an NBA Pro …. I would be sad to see one of the last true post players depart the game ….
Member of Globetrotters dies in his sleep
Chris "Flash" Richardson was 28 years old, but the cause of death is supposed to be natural. I suppose there's much worse ways to go but still …. twenty eight ….
It seems kinda fishy to me still, though ….
Josh Howard out indefinitely with "bad ankle"
Is this a REAL ankle problem or one of those Al Harrington "I'm not gonna play til you trade me" injuries? I have a feeling we'll see Josh Howard in a new uniform by the all-star break …
New World Championship established. NBA not invited to attend
For all of the NBA's talk of globalization, the exclusion from a tournament like this is big news. It'll be interesting to see what the Stern-bot will do …
Corie Blount charged with felony drug possession
The 39 year old former NBA player was found to have 29 pounds of marijuana, 3 guns and $29,500 in cash when police raided his home. Sad to see he decided to become a drug dealer after so many years of wealthy living ….
Knicks most valuable NBA Team
According to Forbes magazine, the Knicks are once again the League's most valuable team, valued at over 613$ Million.
Imagine how much more they'd be worth if they played decent basketball ….
And staying with the NY Freakshow …. Marbury exile not deemed punishment by Walsh
though I am not sure they agree, I just am pretty tired of watching this bitchfest …
McDyess returns to Pistons
This isn't really news … anyone who had more than 2 brain cells could have figured out that this would happen after the first 5 days … shady shady NBA ….
Rodney Rogers paralyzed
This story hit me hard. I remember watching Rodney Rogers play in the NBA. And I have followed his career for a minute.
I was always up and down with him, but was always intrigued by him because, though his skills and decision making on the court were never perfect, his professionalism and off court behaviour were. I don't remember him ever getting into any real trouble.
He was one of those good guys in the NBA.
But last week he had an ATV accident and he is now paralyzed from the shoulders down. My deepest sympathies and prayers go out to Mr. Rogers and his young family.
Timberwolves oust Randy Wittman as Wolves Head Coach
This one kind of surprised me too. Though they are bad, they are not as bad as other teams out there. Now Kevin McHale steps in as head coach (again). And everybody is happy …. wait, what was that?
Yup. Everyone's happy about McHale being a coach again.
Hold up. Has everyone forgotten that McHale's "coaching" was instrumental to KG leaving Minnesota? That McHale was the reason that the old Minnesota playoff teams were dismatled for this new, younger "more athletic" core of players?
Y'all are friggin insane. McHale is a tit. A buffoon. And he deserves to be flipping burgers at Arby's.
Charlotte Bobcats about to hire Juwan Howard
With Chris Webber, Jalen Rose and the rest of the Michigan Fab 5 seemingly retired from the game, it's surprising to see that Juwan Howard is still ballin. Play on, playa. Play on.
Washington, Memphis, New Orleans complete trade
To Memphis: Future 1st round pick
To New Orleans: Antonio Daniels
To Washington: Mike James, Javaris Crittenton
Thoughts: Memphis is a garbage franchise. Those guys don't know how to put together a team and need to be relocated to Seattle where fans actually care about basketball – but make sure that you get rid of the shit management team IN Memphis and replace them with monkeys smoking cigars. I think they would do a better job of running the team. New Orleans gets a set up PG who will complement Chris Paul and they get rid of Mike James and his "I need 40 shots a game" policy. Seriously … loved the guy when he was in T.O. but he's turned into a bit of a dick. Washington gets the hope of a real baller in Javaris Crittenton, but has to put up with Mike James …….. jury is out on that one.
Charlotte and Phoenix complete trade
To Phoenix: Jason Richardson, Jared Dudley, 2010 NBA 2nd Round Pick
To Charlotte: Raja Bell, Boris Diaw, Sean Singletary
My Thoughts: Phoenix is in panic mode now and has completely dismantled the old run n gun Suns I knew and loved. The only hold overs are Amare and Nash – who I wouldn't be surprised to see jump ship to play in NY in a year or two. Charlotte got the better end of the deal cause they get Larry Brown's defensive stopper (they played together in Philly with AI) and an able Forward to light a fire under Okafor and Wallace's ass. Phoenix gets J-Rich, sure. But he's old now and not as effective as he used to be at taking it to the cup. He's essentially a jump shooter now. So the Suns get older and slower and not necessarily better …. and the SPURS are worse than this now?
Raptors fire Sam Mitchell
This move was my H-Bomb of the week in basketball news. The Raptors were 8-9 on the season and were not looking too bad, yet. And then Colangelo goes and pulls the trigger and fires the former coach of the year.
There are reports that this move was simply done because Colangelo wanted to put a spark back in theteam and that since he didn't like Sam Mitchell and his coaching philosophies, it was a good decision to make. But I beg to differ. Sam Mitchell always worked wonders with what he had. They took away TJ Ford from the backcourt and gave full leadership to Calderon. Initially I thought that it was a good thing, but I am underwhelmed by his production this year. I think he was a great backup, but as a starter he has been slightly below average. And now with Ford gone, t
hey lose a bit of that run n gun that Colangelo so badly wanted. They brought in Jermaine O'Neal, a guy who plays the same position as Bosh, so they clogged up the lanes for Bosh and took some touches away because JO needs the ball in his hands to be able to do anything and now the entire team looks different than they did last year.
They were learning to play together still and now they have to get used to a new system and coach! (Jay Triano gets the nod as the interim head coach – Canada's first NBA Head Coach) And now they are sucking worse than ever! Their body language screams "loser" and their record is reflecting all the turmoil of off season changes ….
This is a HORRIBLE way to persuade Chris Bosh to stay in TO beyond his current contract which expires in 2010 ….. (rumours have him going to play with Steve Nash and LeBron James in New York …)
Never thought that I would say this so soon, but the Raptors once again suck ….

"Being consistent is not about being boring. It's about being tenacious as a pitbull."
~Henry Abbot~
Awesome story about Jerry Sloan
Sometimes we forget the strength that members of our society (pastors, doctors, parents, The Spurs) display in being able to perform all day, every day.
Go Spurs Go!
